Adolescent Services

Adolescence marks a time of transition from childhood to adulthood and encompasses many psychological and physical milestones.  A gynecologist can serve as a trusted guide to lead a teenager from adolescence through adulthood.  Many young women have special needs and concerns about changes in their bodies.

Shaw Center for Women welcomes your adolescent daughters to our practice so we can provide the kind of one-on-one care young women want in an atmosphere that allows them to feel comfortable talking about their health and lifestyles.

SCW offers a unique services for girls entering adolescence - the time of transitions from childhood to adulthood.

"Empowerment Club"

We have put together a special "my first GYN visit" well-girl check-up for girls age 12 and older.  She will meet with a female physician and counselor and has the option of receiving her first of three Gardasil vaccinations.

The physician will provide a physical exam (an internal exam will only be given if the girl is sexually active) and talk to with her about her health and lifestyle choices.  Next she will meet with our on-site counselor to talk about issues she may be facing or could face in the future such as healthy body image, healthy eating, exercise, friendships, communication and self-esteem.

Members of our Empowerment Club program will then return for an annual health and wellness check-up.
